Breakfast in your hotel. We will begin with a briefing meeting at 9:30 a.m. to introduce everyone in the group and the guide, as well as to discuss the trip. Afterwards, we begin our tour of Muscat. Drive past the magnificent embassy neighborhood to reach the Sultan Qaboos Grand Mosque, which is a remarkable architectural achievement. As a contemporary place of worship, it serves as a spiritual landmark for modern Oman, reflecting the Omani people's ideals and ambitions. As an edifice, it strikes an ideal balance between aesthetics, culture, and deeply established Islamic tradition. After visiting the mosque, we proceed to the OPERA house to see this magnificent structure designed by Sultan Qaboos. Lunch will be provided in a traditional seafood restaurant with the locals. After lunch, we will visit Old Muscat, which is encircled by steep mountains and flanked by twin 16th-century forts 'Jalali' and 'Mirani', as well as the Al Alam Palace, the residence of His Majesty Sultan Qaboos. We will then drive to the Bait Al Zubair Museum. Bait Al Zubair is part of Muscat's legacy. Sheikh Al Zubair, who served three past Sultans, established the home in 1914, and his son Mohammad Al Zubair turned it into a museum in 1998. Its carved doors lead to a reception area with a fortress-like appearance. Traditional Omani weaponry, jewelry, clothes, domestic utensils, and reconstructed urban and rural landscapes are all on display at the museum. Then travel down the scenic corniche, stopping in Muttrah, the primary port and commercial center, to tour the colorful old souk. This is a true souk with meandering alleys and backstreets and stalls offering all kinds of fabrics, jewelry, traditional Omani perfumes (bukhoor - made of frankincense), souvenirs, and antiques. After the long tour, we will return to the hotel. Dinner is at a traditional OMANI restaurant, where you will see how OMANIs eat and taste their cuisine while enjoying the peaceful setting that OMANIs prefer. Overnight stay at hotel in Muscat.
After breakfast, embark for an exciting adventure trip. We will drive through one of the most exhilarating parts of Oman's 1,700-kilometer coastline. Visit the famed Sinkhole, a fallen mountain filled with sea water, and then continue driving along the graded road through Fins. Continue your travel to Wadi Shab, where we will stop to appreciate the magnificent landscape and possibly walk a little in the WADI. Lunch at WADI Shab. We will next travel to Sur, a seafaring town and commercial harbor that is teeming with activity all year. Famous for the magnificent architecture of its old town and shipyards, where traditional dhows have been built for generations on the bay's edge. Following a brief tour of Sur, we will continue down the coastal route, passing through towering cliffs and little fishing communities. At the end of the afternoon, we will arrive at the Wahiba Sands desert, one of Oman's most fascinating and mysterious locations. We will board 4x4 vehicles and begin our trip in the desert. The huge, ever-shifting dunes support an astounding variety of species, as well as other flora and fauna. The dunes' rapidly changing patterns are a photographer's dream. The Wahiba is also home to a few thousand Bedouins, who have lived in this harsh environment for at least 7,000 years. We will perform some dunes bashing as our expert drivers demonstrate their skill on the dune drive, which is an exciting experience. Dinner at the desert camp, followed by an overnight stay in Wahiba Sands.
After breakfast, we'll spend one last time enjoying the desert and its secrets before boarding our 4x4 and returning to normal civilization. We'll then head to Wadi Bani Khalid, a lovely green valley surrounded by steep rocks. We will have a fantastic view and the opportunity to capture the beautiful splendor with our cameras. We will go through the wadi to study the surrounding environment on foot. We'll leave for NIZWA around noon and stop for lunch along the route. After lunch, we'll head to Nizwa, a wonderful city with a rich history. We will undertake a quick orientation of NIZWA once we arrive, which should take about 2-3 hours. Nizwa, Oman's historic capital, served as a learning center and the cradle of Islam in the country. Nizwa's main attraction is the 17th-century souq, which is noted for its silver jewelry, as well as the popular and interesting livestock auction held every Friday. The massive tower, built on a solid rock foundation, was meant to withstand the vibration of 24 cannons. We will visit the SOUK and tour around the old city. Check into the hotel. Overnight stay at hotel in NIZWA.
After breakfast, we will continue our excursion to Nizwa. Our first stop will be the lovely ancestral village of BIRKAT AL MAWZ at the foot of the GREEN mountain, JEBEL AKHDAR. Then we'll head to the Jabreen Fortress. The Jabreen Castle, erected in the seventeenth century, is one of the greatest examples of its sort. This castle stands out for its exquisite plasterwork, carved doors, and painted wooden beam ceilings. After visiting the Jabreen castle, we will drive back to Nizwa, passing by the JEBEL SHAMS, which are part of Oman's most famous Hajar mountain series. We will drive via one of Oman's oldest tiny villages, Bahla, and its fort (outside visit). We'll stop in Al Hamra's palm groves to see the Falaj system. We'll stop for lunch along the route.
