Necessary Prerequisites

Must have a passport that is valid for at least six months after your planned departure from the United States. Even if they travel on their parent’s passports, children need their own separate visas. The Immigration and Nationality Act specifies the requirements that visa applicants must meet in order to be granted a visa to enter the country temporarily. In order to apply as a visitor to the United States, applicants must prove that they meet the legal criteria for such a status.

By default, the law assumes that everyone applying for a tourist visa also intends to settle permanently in the country. Tourist visa applicants must thus disprove the following:

That they want to visit the United States for legitimate business, tourism, or medical reasons; That they only intend to stay for a certain amount of time;

Documentation proving sufficient cash for domestic needs;

Indisputable proof of deep international social and economic links; and

That they have a home and other links outside the U.S. that will force them back there once their vacation is over.

Non-immigrant visas, like visitor visas, allow temporary U.S. entry for business (B-1) or pleasure, tourism, or medical treatment (B-2).
