This exciting five-day vacation is jam-packed with thrills, including a bike ride on the notorious Death Road and a cable car ride high above La Paz. The program centers on the most thrilling activities in and around the capital city of Bolivia. See the UNESCO-listed Tiwanaku ruins first, and then take a bike tour that takes you into the Yungas cloud forest and downhill. After learning about coca leaf farming in an Afro-Bolivian hamlet, you’ll return to the city to eat traditional Andean food.
Greetings from Bolivia! Your guide will take you to the UNESCO World Heritage Site, the abandoned city of Tiwanaku, today. You will view the principal temples, the Gateway of the Sun and Gateway of the Moon, the Pyramid of Akapana, Kalasasaya, and Puma Punku, some of which are still under excavation. The archeological complex is dotted with enormous monoliths and figurative depictions in addition to these conventional examples of Tiwanaku's architecture. Their creation is still a mystery: massive stone blocks, the heaviest of which weighed 45 tons each, were precisely positioned such that there is not a single space between them. Make your way to your La Paz hotel in the evening to rest.
Today is going to be quite special since you will be using the cable car system to explore La Paz. The city is crossed by a network of lines that make up the Mi Teleférico transit system, which was established in 2017. Six distinct lines will take you on your full-day journey, starting in the nearby city of El Alto and ending in La Paz's bohemian area of Sopocachi, which is home to contemporary architecture, busy squares, and public parks. A stroll down colonial Jaen Street will mark the end of the excursion. You have the evening free to explore and eat at a nearby restaurant serving Bolivian food.
You're going to go on a once-in-a-lifetime bike ride on Death route, which is known as the "world’s most dangerous road." A full-suspension bicycle and excellent safety gear, such as goggles, elbow and knee pads, gloves, and full-face helmets, will be provided for you. Take a guided tour of the Yungas, one of the world's most breathtaking environments. Its meaning in the original Aymara language is "warm lands." You descend via an exhilarating 11,482-foot (3500-meter) plunge during the adventure. You'll be treated to breathtaking vistas of rivers, valleys, waterfalls, and the Andes throughout the three-hour journey. Arrive to Yolosa village to end your bike. You will spend the night at the town of Coroico, which is mountainous.
You are going to Tocana, an Afro-Bolivian town where the majority of people live and work as coca leaf farmers. One of the most significant crops in the area is the notorious coca leaf, which is used extensively in Bolivian culture and is widely recognized worldwide as a component of cocaine. On your tour of a farm, you will talk with farmers and their families and gain knowledge about the local way of life, including cuisine, music, culture, and environment. Your driver will drop you off at your La Paz lodging in the middle of the afternoon, giving you the rest of the evening to yourself before the tour comes to a conclusion.
